After another early exit, Mavs due to rebuild?

May 1, 2010

Tonight should have been the night. The night of game 7 between the Mavs and Spurs. The game would have taken place in Dallas giving the home crowd the opportunity to shout and scream their beloved Mavs into the second round of the 2010 NBA Playoffs. Tonight should have been the night. But since Thursday we all know this won’t happen. Instead, the “NBA Playoffs” logos will be removed from the court of American Airlines Center and another long offseason is about to start.

We all know what happened. The Mavs had three chances to win a game in San Antonio this series. All three times, they came up short. Entering the playoffs with high confidence and the faith to finally have what it takes to go all the way, what we’re left with now, is the third first around exit in the past four years. So, I don’t even want to into discussing what went wrong and the ‘coulda-woulda-shoulda’-type of analyzes. It just won’t change anything.

But what I am wondering these days is, looking forward, what will happen in Dallas. The organization is coming off another huge disappointment that caps off a 10-year run of consecutive Playoff showings, including a 2006 trip to the NBA finals. But in the end, there are no rings to show for it. Dirk said he will ‘look at his options’. Sure, it was in the very moment of huge disappointment and shock. But it’s the first time really, that the ‘Big German’ let the option open of possibly leaving Dallas. Read the rest of this entry »

Mavs in must-win situation before game 4

April 25, 2010

Today, before game 4 in the Mavs – Spurs series in the first round of the 2010 NBA Playoffs, I think it’s a good time to take a first look at how my predictions I’ve made on April 17 on Saviorfan.com. Well, the numbers still have me within my predictions. I predicted the Spurs would get two wins out of this one. But I’ll be honest – I hadn’t expected the Spurs would have them so soon.

I still have faith in our beloved Mavs, but the truth is, the two seed team in the West faces a must-win situation tonight, when they play game four in San Antonio. You don’t want to come back to Dallas down 1-3. You cannot count on coming back from being down by two against a team like the Spurs. While I think they’re not most likely to win the championship, they still are the Spurs. They’re still able to put you away. Read the rest of this entry »

An apparent end can be a real new beginning!

April 24, 2010

Hard times. If you’re a not too uncommon citizen of this planet, you’ll probably have gone through some of them in your life before. Let me say first: I’m fine! No need to worry. But have you ever been in the situation that good friends of you have been struck with hard times? Have you ever seen someone you care about hit a “rough patch”?

If so, you’ll understand it affects you, almost as if it was yourself that was going through this. And in a way, you are! I see friends struggle and not do too well these days, just like is the case with myself at times. Too often I feel helpless, especially if I come to realize again, I don’t know the solutions myself. Sometimes feeling not to be able to help can feel as bad as being in the need of help yourself! Read the rest of this entry »

My 2010 NBA Playoffs prediction

April 17, 2010

One of the great things that I love, that comes with the Playoffs is the playing around with brackets. You gotta love brackets. I know, I do. Do you, too? So I’ve created my own bracket, based on my own predictions for this year’s NBA Playoffs. Watch out, they’re probably holding a couple surprises for you! If you find me to be a bit biased towards the Mavs, give me the benefit of the doubt, since my hopes for them to go all the way surely played a role in it, too. Read the rest of this entry »

Let’s go Mavs! The time is now.

April 17, 2010
Dirk and the Mavs are facing the Spurs in the first round of the 2010 NBA Playoffs

Dirk and the Mavs are facing the Spurs in the first round of the 2010 NBA Playoffs

It’s that time of the year again. Since late October last year, 32 teams battled it out. There was a fantastic All-Star game in Dallas half the way. There was spring coming up and the wrap-up of 82 regular season games. Yes – it’s that time of the year again – the NBA Playoffs are here! And the Dallas Mavericks are in the show again. For the tenth straight year, the Mavs are in the NBA postseason. Ultimately, with all the season’s good, the bad and yes – for a dedicated Mavs fan sometimes just outright ugly – it all comes down to this. Win or go home!

I’m excited, because I believe the Mavericks and all fans have reason to be hopeful. The deadline trade in February worked out greatly. The team is deep. The team has good chemistry. The new guys fit in well and have shown more than once they are a great addition to the team. I’m excited about Caron Butler and Brandon Haywood completing what I think is one of the most complete lineups in the entire NBA. Read the rest of this entry »

Reason is not a thing. Reason is a person.

April 14, 2010

There are many good sayings. Many of them hold a wisdom or truth that often touches us in a very personal way. We get something from it and wrap our mind around it. One such saying that I’ve known for a long time was, that “sometimes, in order to gain something, you gotta give up another thing.” And even though I knew of this saying for a long time, in this or another form, these days it’s getting a new, more personal meaning for me. Like with so many things, it’s one thing to know something and a completely different thing, to actually experience it.

Sometimes, letting go is the only way to receive. I’m talking about letting go off things we want, that aren’t really what’s best for us. I experience god taking away things from me these days. Things that I hung on to, like sometimes doing the right thing for the wrong reason. Read the rest of this entry »

Facebook Group: Support NASCAR in Europe!

March 15, 2010

Facebook Group "We want NASCAR racing in Europe!"My good ol’ buddy Miguel Gomes of Portugal, who I got to know through online racing back in the days, has started a new Facebook group that I just thought I’d mention to ya’ll so you’re aware and will hopefully support it, if you are a NASCAR fan and located in Europe.

As most NASCAR fans in Europe know, it’s been a big struggle to say the least, to watch your favorite sports for some time now. Germany has not seen live coverage since the 2008 Daytona  500, the final race  that (then Premiere) Sky broadcasted live. Later that same year they showed one-hour recaps and eventually the screens stayed all dark in 2009. Read the rest of this entry »

I almost forgot…

March 15, 2010

… how bad serious back pain can feel. I’ve had it for three straight days now. At times, I was barely able to move at all, not to mention walking. I had back pain issues back in 2007 a lot but with new shoes things got a lot better. Maybe it’s time for another pair, uh. But before paying a visit to the shoe store, I may have to go see a drug store tomorrow.

To all the people out there suffering from back pain: I know how you feel! Get well soon, ya’ll!

Looking for a Cleveland Indians fan forum

March 10, 2010

Ever since watching the classic movies ‘Major League’ and ‘Major League II’ I’ve been a Cleveland Indians fan. Okay, I’ve admittedly not been the most passionate fan, but I’ve always supported them ever since. They are waiting on winning a pennant since 1948 (!!!) – how can you not support a team that’s been going through a drought like that.

I never had MLB Baseball on TV over here in Germany. That and the huge time difference made it difficult for me to follow the sport and the Indians directly. But for a few months now, I’ve got ESPN America now. This channel is part of a subscription based package for my cable tv account that lets me watch american sports such as NFL, NHL, MLB, NCAA College Basketball and more. One word: Awesome!
